Pura Lempuyang sits high in the mountains of eastern Bali and is considered one of the island’s important temple complexes. Most travellers know it for the famous Gates of Heaven, where Mount Agung appears perfectly framed on a clear day.
Lempuyang is far more than an Instagram photograph. The mountains, clouds, temple ceremonies and panoramic views carry the distinct atmosphere of eastern Bali.
Arrive as early as possible: Agung is more likely to be clear, and queues at the gates grow later in the day.
